Cecchetti Syllabus
The Cecchetti Council of America is an organization dedicated to
maintaining the standards and method of ballet training established by
Cav. Enrico Cecchetti (1850 – 1928), a master teacher and performer. His
legacy to the ballet world was his accurate understanding of the human
anatomy. He was visionary in his balanced and careful
training. Some of his students were among the world’s foremost
dancers of that time, including the great Ballerina, Anna Pavlova.
The CCA was started in 1939. It based its teaching on the methods of
the Cecchetti Society Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of
Dancing in London. The CCA uses Cecchetti’s teachings and writings
in a sequence of carefully developed grades and provide an accredited
examination process that tests an individual’s proficiency within those
grades. There are eight grades, consisting of four children’s
grades and four professional grades.
Membership in the CCA requires studying with a certified teacher of the
method being sponsored by a CCA member, and successfully completing one
teacher’s examination as well as ongoing training to maintain the
Cecchetti method. There are many certified teachers throughout the
country, but there are only two qualified Cecchetti schools in
Minnesota.
Students in Ballet I and above may work in the specific ballet syllabus,
and for those who are ready. A ballet exam is taken. The exam is
conducted by national CCA examiners and is internationally recognized.
